Home Health Care in Fort Myers, FL

Jul 20, 2018 by Comfort Keepers

Following serious health issues, such as a surgery, seniors need to undergo a period of recovery. Depending on how serious the health event was, the recovery period can last from several days to several weeks. Generally speaking, the whole process is made up of two parts. The first one takes place in the hospital, while the second is done in the home of the senior.

Alternatively, the other part of the recovery process can take place in an assisted living facility.

The fact is, though, that most seniors do prefer recovering from serious health concerns in the comfort of their own home. This is why it's definitely a good thing if you're considering becoming a family caregiver.

However, before you decide on such step, first you need to make sure that you have what it takes to provide your senior with the home health care they deserve.

Here are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself before deciding to become a family caregiver:

  • Does your senior need walking assistance or will they be able to move freely on their own?
  • Does the home of the senior have enough room for a large hospital bed and other hospital equipment necessary to be near the senior during the rehab process?
  • Do you have the skills and mental strength to provide your senior with all the home health care they need?

If you decide to become a family caregiver, not only will you have to provide the senior with care related to the rehabilitation process itself but you will also have to take care of many other duties instead of them. You will have to help them out with bathing, grooming, and toileting, as well as do all the housekeeping tasks that they won't be able to do while recovering. Those tasks include everything from meal preparation to house cleaning, dusting, and whatnot.

For all of the aforementioned reasons, hiring a professional caregiver to give you a helping hand is definitely a wise thing to do. Not only will they make your job easier, but professional care providers will also ensure the senior gets all he or she needs for a quick recovery.
